Just Get a Grip (sonnet)

The chilling breeze floats in and flips my hair.
The rhythmic beat of music fills my ears.
I deeply take a breath of the fresh air,
And fight to build a dam to stop the tears.
Life is so beautiful, or so they say.
Some days I feel that's true, and some I don't.
Keep thinking there must be a way
To face the pain inside me, but I won't
Explore the darkest shadows deep inside
Behind the walls I've built to keep me safe.
There must have been some reason then to hide,
But now I have to join the human race.
"Just get a grip," I tell my weary self,
"This can't be solved by anybody else."
